OLD SCHOOL HOUSE
The commission includes the refurbishment and new additions to an apartment set within a grade II listed former school house in Wimbledon, London. Working to a low budget, the proposed scheme is treated as a large furniture piece which clearly reads as an insertion into the georgian property. It comprises new open plan living and kitchen, new staircase, mezzanine study and integrated storage. The reconfigured layout significantly improves daylight penetration to all spaces, alongside improving circulation and creating flexible space. Exposed birch plywood is used throughout the project, due to its relative low cost, structural integrity, light colouration and negating the need for extensive surface finishing.
