WARKWORTH RETREAT
A dedicated residential treatment and recovery centre from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder overlooking Warkworth Beach, Northumberland. In addition to accommodating recognised treatment methods for PTSD such as cognitive behaviour councelling, art and craft based therapies, low intensity exercise and meditation spaces, and opportunities for social reintegration, the retreat centre also seeks to directly support its occupants psychological wellbeing through the application of environmental psychology principles, such as JJ Appletons' 'Prospect Refuge Theory'. Accordingly residents are free to dictate their position between prospect and extroversion, or refuge and introversion, which are afforded in all spaces. The functions within the retreat are as such not restricted to specific physical enclosures, but rather exist and move within fluid psycho-geographical space with the residents. The restorative effects of landscape permeate all spaces.
